Recently, Fox News had a chance to speak to GM’s Executive VP of Global Product Development, Purchasing & Supply Chain, Mark Reuss and his answer to the “what doesn’t GM make that it should be making now?” question was very insightful one.

Thankfully, it’s not another compromised crossover, but rather a vehicle with a body style that has been around for far longer than the raised hatchback: the wagon.

In fact, it wouldn’t be any ol’ wagon, but an affordable, sporty and fun to drive one that would still offer most of the utility of a crossover, but add a superior experience behind the wheel to boot. Reuss even went as far as to say that it would be the kind of car to get people out of crossovers, which is an odd thing to claim since they’re promoting the pants off every single one that they sell through their many owned brands.

The top GM exec shies away from making concrete statements, but since the States currently only has one US-made wagon on sale, based on the now-defunct previous-gen Cadillac CTS, more of them definitely couldn’t hurt, especially since Volvo has already acted upon the impulse to bring a small estate to the States. Japan could chip in too…
