Seen for the first time as a concept at the 2012 Geneva auto show before VW introduced a production version at the Frankfurt motor show later in the same year, the special edition Amarok Canyon is now making a late entrance in the UK market where 350 examples will be offered for sale on April 1.

Retail prices start from £28,990 (excluding VAT) for the 6sp manual gearbox model rising to £30,720 (excluding VAT) for the 8sp automatic transmission, with both versions fitted with the top of the range 2.0-litre BiTDI 180PS (178bhp) diesel engine, offering up to 420Nm (310 lb-ft) of peak torque.

The Canyon builds on the Trendline grade adding a slightly more rugged appearance through high-gloss styling bars, 19-inch Cantera alloy wheels, silver under guards, matt black roll cover and Indium Grey foil lettering on the sides. There’s also an optional roof light bar for £945 (ex. VAT) with customers having a choice of three exterior colors: Copper Orange, Reflex Silver or Deep Black

Inside, the cabin is dressed in Nappa and Vienna leather upholstery in two-tone Moonrock (light grey) and Anthracite (dark grey), while there’s also a leather-covered steering wheel and gear knob with orange stitching. When ordered in Copper Orange, the air vent surrounds are matched to the vehicle’s exterior color, while on the Deep Black and Reflex Silver models, the air vent surrounds are in Matt Chrome.

Among other standard features included in the package are a satellite navigation with a six-inch color touchscreen, Bluetooth, heated seats, front and rear parking sensors, privacy glass and floor mats.
