The Ford Sierra Cosworth is a legendary car that needs little introduction. The three-door performance version of the Ford Sierra was powered by a Cosworth-built 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine producing 204 horsepower and sending power to the rear wheels.
Ford produced 5,545 units of the Sierra Cosworth, of which 500 were RS500 models, a limited series destined exclusively for the UK market.
RS500s featured a larger Garrett T31/T04 turbocharger, a larger air-air intercooler, thicker walled cylinder block, uprated fuel pump and other performance upgrades, as well as styling tweaks including discreet RS500 badges on the front wings and tailgate, a redesigned front bumper and spoiler, and an upper whale tail added at the back. All the mechanical upgrades increased power to 224 hp.
A superb example of the Sierra Cosworth RS500 is available at Silverstone Auctions’ upcoming Race Retro & Classic Car Sale (February 22). The 1987 car has a Black bodywork with standard grey Recaro Trim cabin, original BBS alloy wheels that have been recently refurbished and a factory sunroof.
It had two previous owners and the odometer reads 84,000 miles (135,185 km). The ad says the engine was rebuilt to standard specification 17,000 miles (27,358km) ago.
The Sierra Cosworth RS500 is estimated to fetch between £32,000 and £35,000 ($52,480-$57,400) at the auction.
