Well, not really, but Alfa Romeo does genuinely want to call their next rear- and all-wheel drive platform “Giorgio”. I, for one, am a bit tired of the endless slew of reports on the matter without even so much as a hint of materialization in any direction.

It’s amazing how they can’t get such a huge name off the ground again, as the Chinese encroach upon Europe and the US more and more, trying to sell tradition-less cars with questionable engineering and copied styling – we need Alfa to be healthy and building cars the way it should for the sake of the industry as we know it.

Now, back to the Giorgio platform; it’s genuinely a real thing, albeit a code name, obtained via private source by Autonews. The information contained in the newly published report doesn’t say all that much that is truly new, but does mention for the umpteenth time that it’s a really important dial for Fiat-Chrysler, a deal that they must get perfectly right – maybe they’re too scared to even try…

It almost sounds like these claims are being made to the press as diversionary methods to hide something else.

There’s no specific time frame for when this new platform will debut, what cars it will underpin and whether it will be truly rear-wheel drive biased. There was some mention of the year 2016, but who knows, really…
