You immediately spot it when you look at the new BMW 2-Series Active Tourer (AT); the things it lost in its transition from concept to production model. Unlike the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and even BMW’s own M4, this car has suffered quite a few changes and these are visible; they don’t make the car look worse per se, just more common.
The Active Tourer Concept wasn’t bad to look at, for an MPV, but the production car loses a lot of that car’s aggression, as was to be expected, since it’s a front-wheel drive family car that’s meant to be practical above all else.
Looking at the photos posed below, one spots the more pronounced narrowness of the 2-Series AT, compared to the motor show car, and the less sexy light cluster design at both the front and the back. The concept had squared off “angel eyes” at the front, but they ultimately went for rounded off ones for production.
Even the shape of the headlights themselves is different and worse than in the concept that had a distinct crease running from close to the top of the kidney grille, along the top of the headlight, then along the side and into the window line. The back also looks kind of fat and bloated without the slimmer, much sexier and more modern rear lights shown on the concept.
