A little over two years since DC Design revealed what it described at the time as India’s first indigenous sports car, and the company says it’s now ready to place the Avanti into production, beginning from the third quarter of the year.
DC Design showed two examples of the Avanti finished in light green and silver shades next to its production-intent Tia mini roadster and Eleron targa SUV at its Delho Auto Expo 2014 stand.
The founder of the company, Dilip Chhabria, told reporters that DC Design plans to build up to 2,000 units of the Avanti per year, which to be frank, is a pretty optimistic number.
Final specs and pricing have yet to be confirmed, but the company had said in the past that the Avanti would come with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder EcoBoost engine sourced from Ford and tuned to produce 240HP and 366Nm (270 lb-ft) of torque, with a starting price of around Rs 30 Lakhs (about US$48,000).
