McLaren just informed us that the first example of its new 650S rolled off the production line in Woking, but more importantly, it shared the performance numbers of the 12C-based and P1-nosed supercar, which it says, is faster than the legendary F1.
In particular, the 641hp (650PS) 3.8-liter twin-turbo 650S races to 100km/h (62mph) from rest in 3.0 seconds and to 200km/h (124mph) in 8.4 seconds, or an entire second faster than the F1.
It also completes the quarter mile (400m) in 10.5 seconds or 0.6 seconds less than the F1 and 0.5 seconds quicker than the 12C, and boasts a top speed of 333km/h (207mph).
And just in case fuel economy is of any concern, McLaren promises an admittedly, rather optimistic, combined figure of 24.2mpg UK (equal to 20.1mpg US or 11.7l/100km) on the EU cycle, with CO2 emissions of 275 g/km, which the British firms says makes it “one of the most efficient models in class”.
In the UK, the new 650S Coupe is priced from £195,250 and its retractable-top Spider sibling from £215,250, or about £20,000 more than the respective 12C models.
We’ll have more on the 650S from the Geneva show next week, where the McLaren model will celebrate its world premiere.
