European buyers will soon have four more choices when it comes to the new generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class, as the German automaker is extending the range with the (already revealed) S300 BlueTEC HYBRID, S350 BlueTEC 4MATIC, S600, and S65 AMG, all of which will hit showroom floors this March.
As evidenced from their “BlueTEC” moniker, the two first models are on the more frugal side, with the S 300 BlueTEC HYBRID being the second regular hybrid edition in the S-Class range after the S400 Hybrid (there’s also the S 500 Plug-in Hybrid).
It pairs a 204PS (201hp) 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel to a 20kW (27hp) electric motor and makes do with 4.4l/100km (equal to 53.5mpg US / 64.2 mpg UK) in the combined cycle with CO2 emissions of 115 g/km. In Germany, prices starts at €80,920 and €86,453.50 for the regular and long-wheelbase editions respectively, including 19 percent tax / VAT.
The other diesel version is the all-wheel drive S350 BlueTEC 4MATIC sporting a 258PS (254hp) and 620Nm 3.0-liter V6, returning an average fuel consumption of 5.9l/100km (39.8 mpg US / 47.9 mpg UK). It starts at €84,728 in its home market.
Moving up to other end of the ladder, we find the S 600 packing a 6.0-liter bi-turbo V12 engine rated for 530PS (523hp) and 830Nm (612 lb-ft) of peak torque that will set you back €164,279.50 in Germany (notice a pattern here with Merc’s 50 cent approach?)
The title of the fastest and most expensive W222 S-Class model to date goes to the S65 AMG that uses a 630PS (621hp) and 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft) 6.0-liter twin-turbo’d V12 to reach 100 km/h (62mph) in 4.3 seconds. It’s available exclusively with a long wheelbase and carries a base price of €234,906.
For the rest of the range, March will see the introduction of a few more optional extras available in the form of the head-up display (from €1201.90), heated windscreen (from €499.80) and touchpad (€178.50), while Mercedes will also add two new design interiors in satin beige/titanium grey pearl or satin beige/satin red pearl, each costing €3629.50 or €892.50 for AMG models.
