Even though Mitsubishi’s automotive division in dire condition and in desperate need of new models, the Japanese carmaker made the decision to lay low at the Geneva auto show that opens on March 6 where it will simply display the same trio of SUV and crossover concepts it did at last year’s Tokyo Motor Show.
Mitsubishi says that these three models will give “European customers a glimpse of its future plans”.
The concepts include the compact-sized XR-PHEV crossover with a sporty, coupe-like profile that uses a plug-in hybrid powertrain with a 1.1-liter direct-injection turbocharged MIVEC petrol engine.
The bigger GC-PHEV hints at the next generation Pajero SUV and it comes with full-time 4WD, courtesy of a plug-in hybrid powertrain with a 3.0-liter V6 supercharged MIVEC petrol engine mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox, a high-output motor and a high-capacity battery.
Finally, we have the AR crossover that Mitsubishi claims combines “SUV sportiness with MPV roominess” (we don’t know if that makes much sense…), with the study featuring a 1.1-liter 3-cylinder turbo’d engine paired to a low output BSG torque circuit with a 48V lithium-ion battery and an DC-DC converter.
