If it weren’t for its illustrious history, an army of fans desperately seeking souls in mechanical objects and the recent launch of the 4C, Alfa Romeo would be as relevant today as Dirk Diggler starring next to Miley Cyrus in a romantic comedy.

Besides the 4C and despite Sergio Marchionne’s promises of grandeur, Alfa has been left with two insect-eyed models, the sub-compact MiTo and the compact Giulietta, the top version of which, the sporty Quadrifoglio Verde or QV, was captured on our spies camera.

We can’t say what gives with the Italian finger-welcome, but the car itself had certain areas under cover, including the top of the grille, the mirrors, the spoilers the lower sections of the bumpers and the side skirts.

Our man with the long lens says Alfa could be readying some aerodynamic and styling changes for the QV to make it stand out more over its regular brethren. There has also been talk about the QV replacing the current 235PS (232hp) engine with the 4C’s related, but lighter and slightly spiffier 240PS (236hp) 1.75-liter turbocharged unit.
