The new Chinese owners of Fisker, Wanxiang, have recently made statements that they are looking to restart production of the Karma sedan by the end of 2014, after it paid $149.2 (€108.5) million to gain full control last month. On top of this, they also want to finish developing the company’s second model, the Atlantic.
The Karma was manufactured at the Valmet factory, in Finland, the same factory that also builds the Marussia B2, among other more mainstream models. Wanxiang wants to keep making the car there and keep selling it at pre-bankruptcy prices – around the $100,000 mark.
Reuters quotes Pin Ni, the boss of the Chinese consortium’s US branch, who explained that “Obviously we want to sell more than what Fisker sold before under its previous management,” adding that “we would like to restart Karma production within a year.
Ni was also asked whether Chinese production of the Karma was considered – he said it was a possibility, but “the first step is the United States.” Naturally, their home market is one that’s becoming so important that it’s almost impossible to ignore, so they will have to look at ways of promoting Fisker there too.
