The MV-1 is a minivan unlike any other. Looking like a fat London cab with an American van face, it’s said to be a very unique and wheelchair friendly. Its makers, (new owners) AM General, who took over from Vehicle Production Group, say its most appreciated feature is the fact that it allows for a wheelchair to roll all the way up to the front row, without having to dismount at all.
Another feature is the in-built powered ramp that extends from the right-hand side rear door, making for very easy access inside.
Set to be made available for purchase as of April 1, customers can expect to pay anywhere from between $50,000 to $60,000.
The company plans to make 5,600 of them, and apparently some will end up doing taxi duty, as the law in many states (and New York City) wants 50 percent of cabs to be handicapped-accessible by 2020.
