Remember when Audi took its first baby steps into becoming a real competitor to Mercedes-Benz and BMW back in the late 1980s with the aptly named V8 saloon?
As a glorified Audi 100/200 with a stretched platform, a V8 engine and plenty of standard kit, it never really posed a threat to the premium S-Class and 7-Series cars of the day, but it did pave the way for the aluminum A8 that followed in the mid-1990s.
One of the V8s that survived the trials of time ended up being transformed into a two-door utility truck that is up for sale on German site Mobile with a listed price of €8,900 (roughly US$12,400 at today’s exchange rates). It’s an unfinished project, but it could have some potential in the right (crafty) hands.
This model has the smaller 250PS (247hp) 3.6-liter V8. There was also a more potent 280PS (276hp) 4.2-liter V8, with both engines linked to Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive system.
