Datsun will release its first model for Russia on April 4, marking the brand’s first official introduction to the country. Developed specifically for the Russian market, the all-new car is teased via a design sketch and an animated video (do note that we posted scoop photos of what we believe to be the production car here).
The model will be Datsun’s first sedan since the reinvention of the brand as an Asian alternative of Renault Nissan’s Dacia budged brand.
It has been styled in Japan but Datsun says its concept “follows the brand’s common global philosophy of offering customers – known as risers – an engaging driving experience, peace of mind ownership and accessibility at the right and transparent price, with a competitive Total Cost of Ownership.”
There are no details regarding the car, but according to reports from Russian media, it is based on Lada Granta’s platform. As you probably know, Renault Nissan has a majority stake in a joint-venture with Lada’s parent company AvtoVAZ, with the alliance planning to take full control of the company by the end of this year.
Development work on the new Datsun sedan was carried out in Russia by an international team of engineers, with the car being billed as the “21st century Datsun for Russia”. The carmaker says the new model will offer no compromise in terms of accessibility, reliability and durability.
Datsun’s launch in Russia is significant for the global expansion of the brand, with Russia being a key market that offers the carmaker great potential for growth.
Datsun’s dedicated webpage for Russia went live on March 13, featuring a countdown to the official launch date. The website will broadcast a live-stream of the unveiling on April 4.
