Things are really moving over in camp Volkswagen, as the manufacturer keeps announcing all manner of future plans, from new factories to new models and markets. The latest session of reveals covers the Crafter commercial vehicle and the Tiguan crossover, both of which have been confirmed for replacement in 2016.
In fact, the Crafter may even lose its current nametag, as VW doesn’t call it the new Crafter, but rather its “successor.” It wll be manufactured in Września, Poland, though, unlike like the current model that’s exclusively made in Germany.
VW will built a plant in the Polish city, one which it expects to churn out 85,000 units per year. Inauguration of the facility is planned for 2016; it will provide 2,300 jobs.
In regards to the Tiguan, the automaker will be building the current model’s replacement in two separate factories. Since the model is so hugely popular and demand is high, they will resort to making it in both their Wolfsburg and Hannover plants (as of 2016). We could speculate that it will borrow styling cues from the T-Roc concept (pictured).
The third car from within the group that was most recently mentioned is the next Porsche Panamera. It’s a model that will be completely reengineered, based on the MSB platform (that may also underpin future Bentleys) and use new engines. The big news here is that the all-new model (also planned to debut in 2016) will switch production from Hannover to Leipzig, as part of the grand reorganization scheme going on within the company.
