In one of the biggest recalls of 2014 to date, the Nissan group has initiated an action that affects 989,701 vehicles from both the Nissan and Infiniti brands in North America because the front passenger-side air bag might not deploy in a crash.
The cars affected by the recall include more than half a million 2013-2014MY Nissan Altimas, along with the 2013-14MY Nissan Pathfinder SUV, Leaf EV and Sentra compact, 2013MY Nissan NV200 cargo van and Taxi, and 2014 Infiniti Q50 sedan and QX60 crossover.
According to documents filed with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a software glitch in the occupant classification system (OCS) may erroneously classify the passenger seat as empty, even when it is occupied by an adult.
Nissan told the NHTSA that it will notify owners, and dealers will update the OCS software, free of charge, with the recall expected to begin in mid-April 2014.
