The Opel/Vauxhall Astra GTC OPC/VXR is already among the most powerful front-wheel drive hatchbacks that money can buy, but GM isn’t content with this undeniable fact and will also be launching the Extreme variant, the one that was recently revealed in Geneva.

We learn from Autocar that the production-spec Extreme would predictably be based on the regular OPC model, but with a power boost and differentiated styling. Technical aspects will be altered too: lighter six-speed gearbox with different ratios, mechanically adjustable suspension, six-pot calipers up front and rear seats removed for lightness.

Driver and passenger would also be fastened in six-point harnesses whose efficacy would be increased by the fitting of a roll cage as well.

Currently confirmed only for the UK, it will probably be sold in all markets where the hot GTC is already on offer; a production run of 50 to 300 examples will reportedly be announced at next year’s Geneva motor show.
