The Bristol Brigand (Type 603) has been in production pretty much unchanged since it was introduced in 1976 – it’s the only car in the world whose spare wheel also acts as part of a side crumple zone, in the event of a frontal crash.
It’s unclear how many have been made since then, but what’s certain is that this clean-looking white example from 1984 is for sale in Lancashire, the UK for £29,995 (~$50,000).
Advertised on a specialist website, the car has been “in private hands for nearly three years, this was previously the Bristol Cars press demonstrator and has featured in Classic Cars, Octane and Evo magazines.”
It’s the third series of Brigands (which ran from 1982 to 1994) and it gets its power from a turbocharged version of the 5.9-liter Chrysler 440 V8. Its top speed was rated at 150 mph or 241 km/h.
There’s really nothing else like it on the road, and while it’s not the cheapest of classics, you know that it will outshine many more mainstream cars simply because it’s so rare.
