We just landed these fresh spy shots of a partially cladded prototype of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ (FCA) small van, with our man on the ground saying that it’s likely a facelifted version of the European market Fiat Doblo that will also base the upcoming Ram ProMaster City for North America.
Not that there will be any significant styling differences between the two other than a different fascia for the Ram, but the masked cross-hair grille suggests this may be a tester for the ProMaster City, expected to arrive within the next year as a 2015MY.
Much like the Fiat Ducato-based Ram Promaster full-size van, most changes for the ProMaster City will be hidden from plain sight and involve the chassis and its suspension components that will be adapted for use in North America.
In a press statement last year, Chrysler also hinted at different powertrains “preferred by North American commercial customers”.
The ProMaster City will be built alongside the Fiat Doblo and its GM Opel and Vauxhall-badged Combo twin at the Italian brand’s factory in Turkey. Chrysler didn’t say whether it will limit North American sales to the commercial versions or if it will also offer a passenger edition.
