Check out this über pretty imagination of the old 1960s BMW E9 coupe and 2000 CS, called the CS Vintage. It looks nothing like any modern BMW, and that’s paying it a compliment, yet it still looks very modern and is undeniably a BMW.
The designer behind it, David Obendorfer (you may remember the name from this Renault 4 study and the Fiat 127 Concept), has tried to keep things realistic, and has based it around the platform that currently underpins the 6-Series.
Its proportions are slightly different to those of the old muses, but people nowadays would probably laugh if they saw a modern car with a decklid as long as it used to be on the 1960s cars.
This car is proof that BMW is not trying hard enough with its design department. If the car you see here was an official company offering headed for production, imagine the kind of mass hysteria it would cause among coupe buyers the world over.
