The Chevrolet SS will get important updates for the 2015 model year, including a six speed manual transmission and magnetic ride control suspension technology.
According to a report from Motor Trend, these updates will be offered as optional extras as early as this summer, after a year during which the SS was only available with a six-speed automatic and low-tech springs.
By offering a manual alternative for the 2015 SS, GM is repairing the error it made when it brought the Holden Commodore SS to the U.S. as the Chevy SS without the six-speed manual transmission available in Australia.
The SS should be quicker to 60 mph with the manual gearbox, as the six-speed automatic is not as quick as modern double-clutch transmissions. Currently, the SS sprints from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 4.6 seconds with the automatic transmission.
As for the magnetic ride control, currently found on the Camaro ZL1, Cadillac CTS Vsport and Corvette Stingray, it will most likely improve the SS’ handling capabilities. As a reminder, the Chevrolet SS is powered by a 6.2-liter V8 producing 415hp and 415 lb-ft (562 Nm) of torque.
