Joining the new M4 Convertible as well as the X4 crossover, facelifted X3, 4-Series Gran Coupe and ALPINA B6 xDrive Gran Coupe at BMW‘s New York Auto Show booth later this month will be a “further refined” version of the production-intent Concept X5 eDrive plug-in hybrid that we first saw at last year’s Frankfurt motor show.
BMW says that “concept study has undergone a series of detailed refinements in preparation for its appearance” in the Big Apple, though, the company doesn’t provide any specific details other than revealing the identity of the 2.0-liter internal combustion engine, which is a turbocharged inline-four gasoline unit with 241hp (245PS).
Previously, the Germans had said that the X5 eDrive featured a 2.0-liter engine of unknown origins paired to a 70 kW (95PS/94hp) electric motor and a lithium-ion battery that offered the SUV a pure-electric range of up to 30 km (19 miles) at speeds of up to 120 km/h (75mph), and a combined fuel consumption of 3.8l/100km (74.3 mpg UK / 61.9 mpg US) on the European cycle. It has also said that CO2 emissions stand at 90 g/km and that the standard sprint from rest to 60 mph (96km/h) is completed in under 7.0 seconds.
All of these numbers remain unchanged in BMW’s latest release.
While we might have to wait for further clarification from BMW about the changes, one thing we recently learned about the X5 eDrive is that it will soon enter production, with the confirmation coming from company boss Norbert Reithofer during the announcement on the X7 just last week.
