Just recently, Porsche boss Matthias Müller confirmed long-standing rumors about the brand getting a four-cylinder engine, and in particular, a new generation of turbocharged flat-four units with up to 400PS (396hp) for the next Cayman and Boxster models.
The last time Porsche offered a 4-cylinder engine was in 1991 with the 944, while if you’re looking for a flat-four, you’ll have to go all the way back to 1976 and the 914 and 912E sports cars.
We wouldn’t be surprised one bit if the Germans have already began field tests of the new family of engines, which brings us to this video shot by the Nürburgring-addicted folks from TouriClips, who suggested that this 911 prototype may be fitted with a four-pot turbocharged boxer.
So, how about you turn up the volume and tell us if you think this 911 has four or six cylinders in the comments below.
