Unless we’re grossly mistaken, these are leaked photos of the new Land Rover Discovery Vision Concept, which will officially break cover at this week’s New York Auto Show. In regards to our Ford Explorer reference, well, the resemblance is there, but in all fairness, the Blue Oval was the one to borrow LR’s design theme on its SUV in the first place.
Land Rover has been rather coy on whether the New York motor show concept directly previews one of the two upcoming models of the expanded Discovery family and in particular, the successor to the current Discovery / LR4 or the smaller Freelander / LR2, or if it simply displays the design direction it will follow on both vehicles.
From the few details Land Rover did share on the Discovery Vision Concept, the most interesting is the “Transparent Bonnet” technology, which through the use of underbody and grille cameras, projects a picture of what is underneath and in front of the car on the hood. You can see the technology in action in the video here.
