Land Rover is ditching the old Defender in favor of an all-new and very different model that will only resemble it by name, and while Mercedes’ own G-Class is not yet threatened with extinction like the British off-roader is, it could spawn additional models inspired by its style, but riding on the customary raised saloon underpinnings.
Mercedes-Fans went from local rumors that the Three Pointed Star was looking to create a model known as City-G and came up with the rather handsome shape you see showcased here in computer generated form. It’s not clear what size of SUV it is, but it looks about GLK-sized to us.
Styling wise, it’s very attractive, especially at the front, and subjectively speaking, it does a better job of hinting at the G-Class than the boxier GLK does (the new one looks nothing like the old one). The back seems pretty good too, as does the design as a whole.
Keep in mind that it’s a completely fictitious creation, based on unconfirmed rumors for a vehicle of unknown size. However, since looks are so important these days, do you think something styled like this would have a shot at the mainstream SUV sector for vehicles mostly destined for in-city use.
