Who knows why Mercedes-Benz opted to draw attention on its next supercar prototype, said to be called the GT AMG or SLC, but it certainly achieved its goal with the application of the bright green and black tiger-stripes camouflage while strolling around the roads of Barcelona in Spain.

Still, we can’t see the details of the car, only its silhouette, which seems to support recent rumors that Mercedes-Benz designers drew inspiration from the 1952 Mercedes 300 SL Racing Sport Coupe that conquered the Carrera Panamericana race. Benz officials have been spreading the word that the new supercar will be their most beautiful creation yet.

Positioned at a lower price segment than the SLS AMG, the GT AMG will encroach into Porsche 911 (Carrera S / Turbo) territory, possibly even competing against the Jaguar F-Type R.

It will share a number of components with the SLS AMG, including a cut-down version of its aluminum spaceframe, but it will be smaller and significantly lighter.

Power will be provided by Merc’s newly developed 4.0-liter bi-turbocharged V8 (shared with the next C63 AMG) that will produce around 480hp in entry-level guise, while looking at the 600hp marque in Black Edition trim.

Mercedes will present the new GT AMG in the second half of 2014.
