Okay, perhaps bad choice of words when there’s a recall for all current-gen 911 GT3s to have their boxer engines replaced after two cars caught fire, but this ladies and gents, is the definitive 991 for enthusiasts: the new GT3 RS and our Porsche-loving spy captured it running some hot laps on the Nürburgring.
That humongous rear wing isn’t happy to see you; it’s there as part of an extended aerodynamics package that also includes a lip spoiler and front canard ‘flics’ designed to generate racecar-levels of downforce, as this hardcore 911 is made to thrill on the track, all while remaining street legal.
Grip will be improved through a re-tuned suspension and wider front and rear tracks – if you look at the photos, you can see the swollen front fenders and the 911 Turbo-style rear fenders with the air intakes that are absent from the regular GT3, as well as different rims and tires.
However, you won’t find a turbo engine hanging over the rear axle; instead, Porsche’s engineers will perform their magic on the GT3’s naturally-aspirated 3.8-liter flat-six with it’s output boosted from 469HP (475PS) to possibly over 500-horses that will be channeled to the rear wheels through seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. As with the GT3, Porsche isn’t expected to offer a manual gearbox for the RS.
We could also see carbon-ceramic brakes as well as a number of measures to reduce weight.
Naturally, the GT3 RS will be even faster than the 911 GT3, which itself, is blazingly fast recording a 3.5-second 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) run and a top speed of 315 km/h (195 mph), with 0-200 km/h (0-125 mph) taking under 12 seconds.
