Just to get an idea of how hard it is sometimes to tell two models from the same automotive group, our spies sent over this picture of the next iterations of the Opel / Vauxhall Agila and Chevrolet Spark testing together in Germany. Having shown you the latter already today, we’ll focus on the Agila in this post.
In camouflaged form, the easiest way to tell the two cars apart is the positioning of the rear door handles; whereas on the Spark they’re mounted up high next to the side window, on the Agila they’re placed in the conventional area on the door. In these shots, you’ll also notice the different fog lamps, Opel’s winged-logo on the grille and the pinched belt-line on the profile.
While the Opel / Vauxhall Adam will continue to target an audience looking for a more premium model with many individualization options, the Agila will take on the role of the brand’s bread-and-butter city car with a much lower entry price and the added practicality of five doors to compete with the Toyota-PSA Peugeot Citroen trio of models as well as the Fiat Panda.
GM’s new generation of 1.0-liter three-cylinder engines, possibly in both naturally-aspirated and force-fed guises, will likely be the powertrain of choice for the European car.
