It’s safe to say that, when Toyota introduces any kind of revisions to its 86 / GT 86 / Scion FR-S trio of coupes, Subaru will follow suit and vice-versa. So we’re not one bit surprised to learn that, less than a week after Toyota announced a handful of updates to the GT 86, Subaru came out with a similar release for the BRZ, initially for Japan.
With the exception of a more vivid “WR Blue Pearl” metallic finish and a new key fob, the rest of the changes are the same and include two new exterior colors, the application of carbon fiber-like accents on the dash, the addition of a shark-fin style antenna, plus changes to the front suspension, rear shock absorbers and steering system to improve handling and feel.
And no, nothing has changed under the hood.
In Japan, the new model year BRZ will arrive in the market on June 27. Subaru didn’t say when it plans to release the updated coupe in other markets around the world.
