The 1967 Ford Mustang Hardtop Convertible is no stranger to our site as we’ve featured this unique creation before, when it was listed for sale back in 2009. Now, it has resurfaced on Autotrader Classics with an asking price of $65,000 (about €47,300 at today’s exchange rates).

What makes this specific build special is that it was made by former Ford employee Ben J. Smith, who had pitched the idea of a first-gen Mustang with a retractable clamshell-style roof to the Blue Oval back in the mid-1960s, but during the development phase, the company’s upper management decided to kill the project.

Smith abruptly retired from Ford in 1968, but some three decades later, he went on to create a number of Mustang Mk1 Hardtop Convertible prototypes, including the one you see here nicknamed “Poison Ivy”. According to the current seller, “Ben Smith recognizes Poison Ivy as 1 of only 14 cars built using his design. Only a handful remain”.

This sample has been customized with a special paint job, Foose wheels and Lamborghini-style doors, with power coming from a 340HP V8 302 cubic inch Long Block Crate Motor from FFRP (Ford Racing Performance Parts) connected to a Racing Tremec T5 5-speed HD transmission.
