This year marks the 30th anniversary from the birth of BMW‘s M5 series with the E28-chassis model that was presented at the Amsterdam Motor Show in 1984, and to celebrate the occasion, the Bavarians are rumored to be preparing a special edition model with more power and unique styling cues.
The folks over at Bimmerpost claim to have obtained what appears to be an official dealer brochure on the car, which is currently named “30 Jahre M5” that is German for “30 Year M5”, albeit with the annotation “Under investigation”.
Naturally, the first thing that stands out is the mention that it will have a tuned 4.4-liter turbocharged V8 delivering 600PS (592hp) and 700Nm (516 lb-ft) of peak torque, an increase of 40PS (39hp) and 20Nm (15 lb-ft) over the regular M5 that goes from zero to 100km/h (62mph) in 4.3 seconds. The 30th anniversary M5 will be offered exclusively with BMW’s M DCT dual-clutch transmission, according to the paper, though, North America could get lucky with a manual option.
The rest of the changes are of the cosmetic kind and include jet-black polished 20-inch wheels, an Individual Frozen Dark Silver paint job, dark chrome exterior trims, Merino leather and Alcantara interior, and special badges.
There’s no set introduction date yet, but next month’s M Festival in Germany sounds like a good place to show the new M5.
