It seems that based on current market trends, if your EV isn’t also a luxurious vehicle, you run the risk of not having who to sell it to. With the exception of the successful Tesla Model S, other manufacturers have so far fallen (sometimes way-) short of their projected sales targets, all the more reason for Renault to reconsider introducing an all-electric variant of its all-new Twingo.

Interviewed yesterday in Cannes, France, Renault’s Chief Performance Officer, Jerome Stoll, told Bloomberg “we’re not in a situation where the market has followed our forecasts. People haven’t yet reached the point where they feel the need to have an electric vehicle for full daily use. People need to feel that need to shift to electric models.”

Currently, the only EV that’s both small and premium is the BMW i3, yet you still need to be quite well off to afford buying one of those, and its quirky looks may keep some buyers away…

Besides, Renault already has a small EV that’s actually pretty good (according to the reviews), in the form of the not-so-successful Zoe city car. Having a slightly smaller one would probably not help sales of either model.
