The Renault 8, the successor of the Dauphine, is one of those instantly recognizable shapes that can only be associated with the diamond badge, even though it had some clear Alfa Romeo influences, as the two brands were cooperating at the time of its creation.

It went on to be built around the world, in places like Algeria, Canada, Romania and even Australia, under different names, before being phased out by the much more modern front-wheel drive Renault 12.

There’s a lot to like about it, especially after it’s put in context by the driftastic period promo video posted below. Upon watching it, the eBay bid for this 1975 example, currently set at $3,550 doesn’t seem excessive.

The car is located in Coahuila, Mexico, some six hours away from Eagle Pass, Texas, and its owner says that it’s in working condition with original documents. Details are vague, but the paint is mentioned as “still looking good,” though that sounds like there is room for improvement…
