The current generation VW Golf, the seventh one ever, has received pretty good reviews, no matter which version of the hatch was tested. Basic versions made sense in their own way, and so too did the models higher up in the range. One of the main traits we hear being repeated by reviewers is the way the new Golf drives (it does it very well and with minimal effort from the driver).

Some of those traits have been carried over to the Sportsvan (or just plain SV in the UK) and the MPV variant of the Golf retains the sharp steering of the hatch, but it nowhere near as composed around the bends.

The Which? review posted below puts emphasis on the excellent interior room for all occupants, the air of top notch perceived quality and the practical bits too (stowage and cubbies).

The bottom line seem to be that it’s hard to justify buying the SV if you think of yourself as a keen driver; you’re better off with the regular Golf if it’s a prime concern, or you can look at more fun to drive MPVs from the same size/price range, like the ever-present Ford C-Max.

If, however, you want the extra space it offers for both passengers and cargo, the added practicality you get with a car designed to excel at ferrying people efficiently, and one carrying the VW badge, then it looks like a pretty sound buy.
