At long last the Volvo XC90 is here, or one half of it, at least… The Swedish manufacturer has just officially taken the wraps off its new SUV’s interior, which it’s showing off through a series of photos and videos.

It’s a modern design, with a steering wheel inspired by that of the Fiat Panda, a large noticeable touchscreen flanked by air vents which are slightly angled towards the driver. The XC90’s interior is no longer a button-fest, in fact it could be called button-less…

Volvo did warn us they were ditching as many buttons as possible and concentrating functions on the generously-sized central screen, and that’s obviously what happened here. It looks nice and clean, but interiors are all about the functionality too – we’ll have to prod it thoroughly before casting judgment.

The manufacturer says it’s the most luxurious interior ever designed for one of their cars, and according to Thomas Ingenlath, Senior VP of the design department, “The most striking feature is a tablet-like touch screen control console, which forms the heart of an all-new in-car control system.”

The seats are also highlighted. These can be had clad in locally-produced scratch-free leather, with adjustable side bolsters, heating, ventilation, massage function and electrically-operated everything – even the headrest goes up and down via button press.

More details will be revealed closer to the car’s launch at the Paris Motor Show.
