While you won’t find many new angles in this photo gallery compared with yesterday’s leaked sketches, the technical details of the GTI Roadster Vision Gran Turismo are definitely worth the read.

That’s because VW has confirmed that the study is powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbo VR6 TSI engine that produces 496 horsepower (503PS) and a massive 491 pound-feet (665 Nm) of torque. Mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, the engine is an evolution of the powerplant used in last year’s Design Vision GTI Concept, producing 105 Nm more while maintaining the same power output.

The fact that VW has further developed this engine can only be good news, as it will be hopefully used on a production car in the near future. Obviously the GTI Roadster Vision Gran Turismo will remain a car destined for the Gran Turismo 6 video game, but the real-life prototype to be shown in Wörthersee will hopefully be a fully functional vehicle.

VW describes the car as “ferociously fast”, thanks also to the 4Motion all-wheel drive system and the aerodynamics package which includes a rear diffuser, a gigantic rear wing, and a race-car-style front splitter. The study rides on 20-inch wheels shod with 235/35 front and 275/30 rear tires and features supercar-style vented disc brakes with a diameter of 15.0 inches (381mm) up front and 14.0 inches (356 mm) at the back.

Until VW decides to show the car in the metal, we can only imagine it wearing the bright, vivid metallic red paint that VW says is a “modern interpretation of the classic GTI color.”
