Cosworth is a world-renowned supplier of performance engines and parts for engines, but up until this point, the company’s strategy was to sell individual components. From now on, though, they will be turning their tactics around completely, shifting to exclusively selling what it calls “Power Packages,” basically packs of parts that you can bolt right onto your car, without affecting reliability or warranty in the process.
These are not only future plans, as the engine builder has come out with its first example pack, specifically designed to work with the FA20 engine that powers the Scion FR-S, Subaru BRZ or Toyota’s GT86.
The “Stage 1” variant comes with new exhaust system, a “Power by Cosworth” calibration kit and calibration file “designed by Cosworth using the latest technology to maximise the peak performance of the stage components working together,” as well as unique badging and “a Cosworth performance filtration solution and low temperature thermostat.”
In Stage 1 guise, the kit boosts power by 11.6 percent for the FA20, raising the output to 230 hp, though Cosworth says more aggressive stages will push that figure closer to 380 hp. All future kits made by the company will be along these lines, though they will add turbo- and/or supercharging too.
