We received plenty of answers in our comments when we asked you what name Lexus should give to the new orange paint finish for the RC F high performance coupe. Your entries included “Napalm Nectarine” (T_Cake), “Jersey Shore Orange” (Peter) “Sunkissed Orange” (Ronnie) and my personal favorite, “Tsirlipipi” (Alemao). And oh, reader Ezystyle proposed “Solar Flare Orange”.
Close enough, as Lexus chose “Solar Flare” as the official name for the orange color for the V8-powered RC F in the UK where it will go on sale later this year.
We’ve yet to hear from the brand’s North American arm which had challenged fans on its own Facebook page, so we don’t know if the name applies only for the UK or for other markets as well.
Lexus UK had some 400 entries (versus more than 2,400 on Lexus’ US page) on its social media account, with the name Solar Flare suggested in five posts submitted by Peter Robert Shaumburg Fodor, Paul Britt, Joe Ettwein, Matt Frenchy and Krisstian Allen.
“We were impressed by the huge response and the creativity shown by our Facebook fans, who took up the challenge with enthusiasm,” commented Richard Balshaw, Lexus Director. “Solar Flare was chosen as we think it captures the power and excitement of the RC F, as well as the impact of the paint finish itself.”
