Ford has confirmed the lowering of efficiency ratings for six of its models, after the EPA retested the vehicles and discovered a significant discrepancy between what the manufacturer had declared and what the cars were actually capable of achieving in the real world.
The vehicles affected are the 2014 Fiesta equipped with the 1.0-liter EcoBoost and 1.6-liter engines, as well as the C-Max Hybrid, C-Max Energi, Fusion Hybrid, Fusion Energi and Lincoln MKZ Hybrid – the ratings have been adjusted as per the table posted below; scroll down to see exactly what they changed.
Totaling somewhere around 200,000 affected vehicles in the US, the changes will prompt Ford to “make goodwill payments to owners,” in order to compensate “for the difference between the previous and revised ratings.”
The manufacturer also mentioned, in its latest press release on the matter, that it also “reviewed its entire line up to determine the vehicles that required further testing and revised the fuel economy ratings for the affected vehicles. No other fuel economy rating adjustments are planned.”
