In an effort to push the Genesis Coupe upmarket and sell it as a more premium vehicle, Hyundai will be dropping the turbocharged four-cylinder engine altogether from its list of available powertrains. This, in the context of a strong downsizing trend throughout the industry, when even muscle-sports cars like the Ford Mustang are going four-pot turbo, is a bit hard to understand.
The information comes via The Korean Car Blog and was confirmed by Autoblog through Hyundai Motor America spokesperson Jim Trainor.
All Genesis Coupe models will now come powered by the 3.8-liter V6 unit, with a choice of either manual or automatic transmissions; these have six and eight speeds, respectively.
Information from Hyundai Motor America’s product plan shows 2.0 Base, 2.0 R-Spec, 2.0 Premium and 3.8 Grand Touring models being discontinued for 2015.
Other changes to the range will include the addition of LED DRLs for R-Spec models and the option to choose a brown leather interior for the Ultimate.
