Toyota’s second generation Aygo goes on sale in Britain from 1 July with prices ranging from £8,595 for the entry level “x” model to £12,395 for the x-clusiv. In between those two cars, you’ll find three more trim grades named x-play, x-pression and x-cite. Early adopters will also benefit from a £600 customer saving offer that drops the entry price to £7,995.

A sister model to the new Citroen C1 and Peugeot 108, the “x” faced (get it now with the equipment level names?), the Aygo is offered with an all-new 1.0-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine producing  68hp (69PS) and linked to either a 5sp manual or a  semi-automatic x-shift transmission, returning up to 68.8 mpg UK (4.1 l/100 km or 57.3 mpg US), with CO2 emissions of 95g/km.

Toyota makes a big deal about the customization opportunities, stating that the city car offers up to 10 interchangeable exterior and cabin features, such as the alloy wheels, instrument panel and seats.

There are five available exterior colors for the x, x-play and x-pression, named White Flash, Silver Splash, Electro Grey, Deep Blue Buzz and Red Pop, while the x-cite will be offered only in Orange Twist and the x-clusiv in Bold Black.
