Almost four years after launch, Peugeot’s flagship family car, the 508, has undergone a mid-cycle facelift with the French model gaining cosmetic and technology updates as well as new and more efficient engines.
The exterior makeover for all three iterations of the 508 series, including the saloon, station wagon and the crossover-ish RX estate, brings a new and edgier front end with a re-sculpted hood, a narrower but more prominent front grille, new LED lights and bumper design. In addition, the saloon and estate get new rear bumpers, with the former also boasting restyled tail lamp fixtures.
Inside, Peugeot says the centrally-mounted 7-inch touch screen now groups together more functions reducing button clutter, while there’s also a new closed-storage box and according to the French carmaker, improved quality of materials.
New tech upgrades include Blind Spot Sensors, a reversing camera, and a fresh assortment of connected services via the PEUGEOT Connect Apps.
Three new engines have been added to the 508’s lineup, including the Euro 6 1.6-liter 165 THP turbocharged petrol delivering 165-horses and C02 emissions from 131 g/km connected to either a six-speed manual or a new six-speed auto that replaces the Euro 5 1.6L 156 THP with 156-horses and 144g/km.
The other new powerplant is the 2.0-litre BlueHDi turbo diesel available with 150-horses (105 g/km of C02) linked to a 6-speed manual and 180-horses (111g/km of CO2) paired to a 6sp auto.
The revised 508 will have its world premiere in August simultaneously at the forthcoming Moscow and Chengdu Motor Shows, before it heads to the Paris Motor Show in October, with sales to start in Europe in mid-September, and in China from January next year.
