The current (and still very new) Stingray Corvette will be replaced by an all new model in 2020. According to a Freep report citing General Motors global product chief Mark Reuss, work on it has already kicked off, and the next installment in the series could be the biggest departure yet.

The C7 is a thorough modernization of what the ‘Vette name stands for, though it’s still pretty much a traditional front-engined, V8-powered sports car made out of plastic, with a long bonnet and unmistakable visual cues.

Since this is still six years in the future that we’re talking about here, the chance for the C8 to turn hybrid (or even full-electric) cannot really accurately be judged, though it’s been stated by officials that neither is ruled out yet – let’s hope they don’t go too crazy and turn it into a range-extender; even pure-EV would be better than that.
