It seems that the new Chinese owners of Fisker, parts giant Wanxiang, have discovered some 250 “bugs” that need tending to before the Karma is worthy for production yet again. It could have been some of these problems that caused the fires and general niggles that were reported on the first cars to come out.
Production (at the Valmet factory, in Finland) has stopped for nearly two years now, and it’s Wanxiang’s intention to restart it, and eventually move it to the United States.
Officials even told AutoNews that they want to add a second model to their lineup, though no precise details were shared on the matter. Wanxiang’s US president, Mr. Pin Ni, said that before all that, though, they “need to carefully evaluate not only the manufacturing side, but who will be our partners for the future Fisker in terms of supply chain. I don’t think we have a fixed plan yet. In fact, we are very flexible.”
So they don’t have an exact plan to guide their every step out of the current predicament, but flexibility is always good, and maybe that attitude will give rise to interesting partnerships (hopefully) with worthy established manufacturers – they could definitely use some input from one of those…
