If it’s EVs’ overly modern looks that kept you from buying into the electric ideal, then Dutch automaker Carice Cars might have just the ticket for you. It’s a very light ticket, and one that won’t shield you from the rain, but it is quirky, fairly affordable for what it is and inspired by cars from the curvy 50s.

They call it the Mk1, and each example is hand built. The similarities in style to the Porsche 356 are evident, but the Mk1 embraces this look fully and Carice adds its own unique twist at the back, where the lack of an engine has meant a different rear end design was possible – it’s noticeably more tapered and features no cooling slats.

The interior is equally retro in style and it isn’t necessarily crammed full of modern tech.

Tire-screeching power is not on the menu either, and the most horsepower you can get this with is 54, though 20 and 5 hp versions will be made available too. However, you won’t have to exclusively rely on the mid-longitudinally mounted battery pack for juice, as range extender engine will be among the options.

Ten people have signed their name up for one and we’re curious what the company has in store next. Each one costs around $36,000 or €26,300.
