Although in its early stages, PSA’s “Back in the Race” plan appears to be working for Peugeot, which has announced a 5.7 percent global sales growth for the first six months of this year. Peugeot sold 853,000 vehicles in the first half, reporting growth both in Europe and in China, its two key markets.

The French carmaker delivered 522,000 vehicles in Europe, accounting for a 13.5 percent growth, and 185,000 vehicles in China, 32.4 percent more compared to the same period last year. Peugeot saw its market share in Europe increase by 1 percent, with the brand’s traditional markets like the UK, Spain and Italy seeing significant sales growth.

Much of Peugeot’s European growth was due to models like the 308, 2008 and 3008, while in China the 308, 3008 and 301 were in high demand – the latter sold 36,700 units.

Peugeot says global orders for the 308 have passed the 100,000 mark in June 2014, while the 308 SW has already racked up 21,000 orders. The recently launched 108 has already recorded more than 1,500 orders in its first month on the market.

Sales of the 2008 crossover reached 95,400 units worldwide in the first half of the year, while the 3008 sold 83,000 units. The 301 was also a good performer, with 58,100 units.

Peugeot’s range of commercial vehicles performed well too, with the Partner selling 66,100 units, the Boxer 27,800 units and the Expert 15,600 units.
