The white Alfa Romeo 4C wasn’t the only sports car that crashed into hay bales at the Goodwood Festival of Speed over the weekend. British GT championship driver and former track cyclist Sir Chris Hoy had a similar moment in a Nissan GT-R Nismo.
Funny thing is the accident happened in the exact same place where the Alfa went off, in a left corner that follows a relatively long straight. The Nissan GT-R Nismo was doing 114 mph (183 km/h) when Hoy lost control, but the hay bales appear to have done their job perfectly, stopping the car before it could reach the spectator stands.
If you watch the footage of the crash carefully, you’ll see that both front air bags went off and that the front end of the GT-R Nismo suffered a nasty remodeling.
Beyond the driver’s obvious embarrassment, this crash proves that driving a four-wheel drive supercar with massive amounts of grip doesn’t protect one from the laws of physics. Head down to watch the accident from two different angles.
