A dry twisty track is not the ideal place to prove that the more powerful, four-wheel drive VW Golf R is faster than a lesser powered front-wheel drive SEAT Leon Cupra. In fact, it would prove the above statement completely false, as the Autocar video posted below illustrates.

Yes, the Golf R is much better in low-grip conditions, but on a dry track, the lighter Leon (in this case SC) Cupra would be the car that just nudges ahead.

Reviewer Steve Sutcliffe drives the Golf first, while another driver is in the Leon trying to keep up. At first, he thought it was faster than the Leon, but then he tried the SEAT and shifted his views completely.

A video that’s worthwhile watching, though it’s not necessarily complete since they didn’t time the two cars around the Cadwell Park track – that would have given us a definitive answer on which is quickest.
