GM Russia’s tough-looking Chevrolet Niva Concept has been revealed through a set of official photos, before its world debut at the Moscow International Auto Show.
The Niva Concept isn’t just another design study, as it previews the successor to the first generation Niva that is based on the classic Lada SUV with the same name and is expected to be released in 2016.
Whether Chevrolet will offer the Dakar Rally-like off-road package used on the matte-black painted concept as an option on the production car is debatable, but it does give the Niva that extra edge.
Speaking of looks, we can’t help but notice the resemblance between the Niva Concept’s rear quarters (window) and the Mercedes-Benz ML or first-gen A-Class.
At 4,316 mm, the study is 260mm longer than the current model and according to Russian sources, power comes from a 135hp 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine borrowed from the PSA Peugeot-Citroen group.
