As polarizing as its looks are, the Nissan Juke has been a rather unlikely success story. Even in its fourth year on the market, sales increase year after year. No wonder Hyundai is jealous.
Edmunds talked to Hyundai Motor America CEO Dave Zuchowski, who said a subcompact crossover is on the table, and gave reason to believe it’ll be going right after the funky Juke.
Zuchowski said it would be targeted at “new, first-time younger buyers,” presumably Millennials, adding it wouldn’t look like a scaled-down version of its compact Tucson crossover, because it would have to be edgy like the Juke.
That also means it probably won’t look like ix25 Concept Hyundai unveiled earlier this year at the Beijing Auto Show. That car sticks very closely to their current Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design theme, shared with models like the new Sonata.
But considering the concept is about the same size as a Juke, it could very well serve as a basis for Hyundai’s Juke fighter. Expect it sometime around 2016, along with a lot of marketing directed at Millennials.
